After the incident with the virgin, he got pretty mad at me. There were some pointed comments about me not being willing to “get over it”. Then there was a rather nasty email exchange. Finally I got tired and I called him on it. Normally not something I would do, but telling a guy I wouldn’t date him because he’s a virgin is also considerably outside my comfort zone. A fact which I pointed out to him, by the way.
What I got was a rather unexpected and abject apology. I was surprised, I thanked him for it, and I figured that was the end of that. I deleted him from my IM contact list and moved on. Until the next day when he started talking to me again.
At this point, since he was clear that I only wanted to be friends, that seemd to be harmless. And, tonight when I got so bored I could climb the walls, he suggested a movie. And so it was that after psuedo-dumping a guy, I met him anyway.
By the way? The reasons for his virginity are clear upon meeting him. Very nice guy with a very nice voice in a very socially awkward package.

Nah, I would have just said ugly if that were the case. It means he’s awkward. In social situations.

socially awkward —> doesn’t have the “socail graces” / know – how to present himself in public, especially on a date, tries too hard to impress and really only causes over kill with the situation? Is this what you meant?
I don’t know what he would have done on a date. But mostly. Picture this…. that really nerdy guy in high school who was always wearing what he thought were witty message tees. He probably carried himself awkwardly, had a funny gait when he walked, and was so confident in his intelligence that he took it as a personal license to be a little odd. And since he was so smart, he expects you to be fascinated with it. Also note this guy actually was really smart, and probably quite sweet. But, you know….. awkward. Then imagine he never outgrew it. That’s what I’m saying.

heh..heh… sounds sort of like the nephew of my boyfriend… well “the socially awkward” part that is.
This poor guy walked up to a group of girls to chat them up and before he could utter a word he ripped a big, ol’ nasty fart. Ha..ha..ha.. Needless to say he turned around and walked away.
My question is this — was the reaction of the ladies “Did that guy just come up and fart on us?” ha…ha..ha…
I have no shame. I would have asked exactly that. Loudly.

Love your blog…saw the title on dontdatethatdudes blog and had to investigate. I can relate to the socially awkward since I used to be that way myself. I think what changed it for me was when I was in college, I threw myself into the whole experience and really came out of my shell and out grew all the awkwardness. Now I can’t even imagine being like that: who has time to be a wall flower or socially isolated? Lifes too short…
I’m not the life of the party by any means, but I do know everyone by the end…
As for your title of One Date Wonder, I think I’m in the running for that title as well…ended a 3 year relationship almost 3 years ago now and been on a steady diet of dates that go nowhere ever since…
